About Our Organization

WOFOWON is the first Non-Government Organization working to ensure the rights of women working in the entertainment sectors in Nepal. It was established with the initiation of women working in the same sector by registering in Kathmandu District Administration Office on 25th March 2008. Since then, it has been working to ensure human rights, labor rights, the right to live with dignity, and freedom of women working in this sector. WOFOWON works against discrimination, suppression, injustices, labor exploitation, oppression, and physical and sexual harassment against women working in the entertainment sectors.

WOFOWON is not only an organization and structure but also the strength and power of women workers. WOFOWON has been launching various campaigns to ensure the rights of women working in the entertainment sectors like dance bars, duet (dohori sanjh), massage parlors, and restaurants (Khajaghar) and cabin restaurants. The primary activities include awareness-raising campaigns on labor rights, human rights, safe migration, right to mobility, anti-trafficking, women’s health right, health services, and activities against violence against women, as well as capacity and skills development programs and advocacy.

Network expansion, and consolidation

The organization has formed various groups of singers, dancers, waiters and men working in the field of entertainment. There are 8 groups and are 80 members in this group.

Drop in Center

Women’s Forum for Women Nepal is operating a Drop-in Center in Gongabu, the place where the office is located, keeping in mind the needs of working women and adolescents and those working in the field of entertainment.

Psychological counseling and activities

Psychosocial support has been provided to 90 working women and adolescents working in this field. Psychological counseling services have been provided to 90 people. Similarly, group psychotherapy has been provided to 63 people.

COVID- 19 Emergency Support

Nepal could not remain untainted by Covid 19 which widespread all over the world. All sectors of trade and business have come to a standstill since the Government of Nepal imposed a nationwide lockdown on April 26, 2010.

Education Support

In order to increase the educational level of the workers, the organization has been providing assistance in education to the working women and adolescents working in the field of entertainment. The organization has assisted 26 adolescents in education this year, 7 women have been assisted in the women’s school and 1 male has been assisted in education support working in the entertainment sector. In this way, the organization has assisted 16 new and 34 old right holders this year.

Coordination and Cooperation

Coordination and cooperation have an important role to play in any organization’s upliftment. WOFOWON also coordinated and worked hand in hand with Tokha Municipality ward 8, 9, 10, 1, 2, Maharajgunj, Buspark, Shorakhutte, kalimati Police Station and Organizations like TPO, CWISH, Gentle Heart, CWICT, Shakti Samuha and CMC Nepal.

Health Support

·      Although the organization have no any health support facilities. Muskan Kendra has been providing , health counseling, identification of various health problems from the Drop-in Center as in previous years, it has identified the condition of working women and adolescents working in entertainment is provided with necessary health assistance and also referred to other health agencies. In the process of identifying the condition of the workers, the organization has provided health check-up assistance to 2 women and 1 health check-up and necessary assistance to a child of a working woman outside the district..
